Spanish Lessons and Tutoring

Pasito a pasito offers a nine-month program for elementary and high school students.

“The best way to improve your knowledge of a foreign language is to go and live among its speakers.  The next best way is to read extensively in it.”  -Christine Nuttal, 1996

I offer Spanish lessons through storytelling, arts, and games using a traditional and TPRS method.

What is TPRS?

TPRS stands for, Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling. It derives from the study of Dr. Stephen Krashen, who believes that to teach a language, one must give comprehensible input.

This means that you do not give students a list of vocabulary words to memorize or drill them endlessly about the different grammar rules.

Instead, you engage the class in compelling activities that provide context clues for the comprehension of language.

Stories are the perfect way to provide context for target words and phrases. This vocabulary is embedded in an engaging story. The story is built around the target vocabulary. With this method, the students will not even realize how much they are learning.

Learning about weather and calendar

I encourage the students to talk about weather and calendar every day.  Students practice, days of the week, months of the year, big numbers, and weather.  Also, students have the opportunity to talk in future tense.

Notice how I guide the student with hands motions, and computer tools.

"Rosamaria possesses the instincts of a classroom teacher. She is
responsible for the discipline, organization, planning, and classroom
management of 20 different classes twice each week. She is well prepared
each day, energetic and fun, firm and fair, and has come to know all the
students’ names. Her students know what is expected of them and respond
in a positive manner.

It is apparent Rosamaria and our students enjoy a
mutually respectful classroom environment. I often think that many
teachers, themselves, would benefit from learning Rosamaria’s skills and
techniques.

Rosamaria is well liked and respected by students, parents, and staff
members and willingly participates in our total school program. She is
professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Rosamaria for

tutoring or public or private lessons of any kind."
